I’ve been in front of a sewing machine since I was ten years old.  My mother started a 4-H group for me and some of my friends.

My mother taught all of us girls to sew while another girl’s mom taught us how to cook.

I was bitten by the sewing bug!  I have been sewing ever since.

Over time, my love of sewing only grew and I started to design and create handmade items all through my high school years.  And, I even found a job at a local fabric store which kept me well-supplied in fabric, notions and other tools.

I attended Berkeley College and studied Fashion Marketing and Management.  After graduation, I worked in the garment district as a buyer, a position I held for fifteen years.

One summer, my family and I visited Block Island and I purchased a cute summer dress from a local crafter.  I wore it until it was absolutely thread-bare.  Yes, until it was literally FRAYED.

I loved that dress so much I decided to start making my own from a basic dress pattern using some vintage table cloths.  I got so many compliments on my creations that I decided to start a business.

Decota Designs™ was born!
